A Modern Apprenticeship (MA) is a four-year training scheme, which provides young people with the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience in their chosen trade, whilst gaining the knowledge and theory needed to obtain an NVQ Level 3 at a designated college.  Modern Apprenticeships are based upon real jobs from day one, with the emphasis on quality on-the-job training provided by you, the employer.
Training includes a mix of attendance at a local college (off-the-job training), which leads to a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ), and hands-on experience at an employer’s premises/site (on-the-job training).  Depending on the apprenticeship the qualification will comprise of a mix of college and work based training over the first three years. Each apprentice and company is assigned a PMST Training Officer who is responsible for monitoring, and keeping you informed of, the progress of your apprentice throughout the duration, and up until the achievement of the NVQ qualification and Modern Apprenticeship.
